An Outstanding Islander

Songbird Soprano
As a little girl, Flicka Rahn tugged on the clothes of visitors in her home and politely asked "Can I sing for you?" The daughter of parents who helped form the Corpus Christi Symphony is the University's associate professor of voice. The soprano has performed major operatic roles ranging from Musetta in "La Bohème" to Bizet's "Carmen." She has sung with New York Wagner International Society, the Boston Lyric Opera, the Boston Concert Opera, the Minnesota Grand Opera and the San Antonio Opera, and she has graced Oratorio stages throughout the nation. Her glorious voice has filled concert halls in Mexico, South America and Spain, and she has sung before the president of Belize to raise funds to build a girls' school. Rahn came to the Island University in 1988 (then Corpus Christi State University) and has served on the faculties of Brandeis University and Incarnate Word College. She is part of the Friedberg/Rahn Duo with pianist and author Ruth Friedberg and also tours with Viva Voce, a soprano/tenor duo. Rahn adores her students and invests her time in guiding them toward achieving their dreams.
