Company Man
Etienne Couret oversees a handful of companies as project manager for the Coastal Bend Business Innovation Center (CBBIC), which now supports around 30 companies. Couret, the CCBIC’s first MBA graduate assistant since September 2009, is in charge of several businesses including 3eWerks, which sells and installs vertical axis wind turbines for homes to offset the rising cost of electricity and to preserve the environment. His duties are to keep the Center’s director abreast of business progress; write and develop business plans in collaboration with the Center and the company; conduct research on industry, competition, potential markets and products; and write proposals and marketing plans. Prior to coming to the Island University, Couret, a native of Reims, France, earned a dual bachelor’s degree in International Business from France and Mexico at CESEM in Reims, France, and UDLAP at Puebla, Mexico. Also, he has supervised marketing and promotional events for Mercedes, Jeep and Chrysler in his native country. He entered the ESLI University Language Center in fall 2008, before beginning the MBA program in spring 2009 and expects to graduate in December with honors. Couret, who is married to alumnus Maria Jaramillo Couret, is on the move as vice president of the Colombian Student Association; founding member of the Young Business Professionals of South Texas, which now has 120 members; and as an active participant at World Affairs Council of South Texas events. Through the Innovation Center, Couret has learned the importance of international affairs, and planning and preparing details in order to obtain funding. He has also knows that before launching a business, a company must form an efficient management team, firm up a finance plan and determine if there’s a market for a particular product. After graduation, Couret plans to work for either a healthcare or international company in Chicago, Ill.
