The Right Balance
As the University Center and Student Activities director, alumnus Lisa O. Perez provides students with opportunities to achieve balance through academics and campus involvement so they can get the most out of their University experience. Perez, who became a student assistant in 1992 at the Island University, oversees the daily operations of the University Center and Student Activities programs and services which include Greek Life, student organizations and student leadership programs. In 1994, she earned her bachelor's degree in kinesiology and has held various positions including assistant director of Recreational Sports. The advisor for the Island Waves student newspaper is involved in Waves of Welcome, Aloha Days and Islander Lights. Her favorite part of the job is advising and staying connected with students. She credits Dr. Eliot Chenaux and Ann DeGaish with helping open her eyes to Student Affairs and providing resources for her to gain a graduate assistantship. Perez is a member of numerous organizations including the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) and the Texas Association of College and University Student Personnel Administrators (TACUSPA). She was recently recognized as ACUI Region 12's Recreation Program Team Leader and Tournament Weekend Host. Her dedication to the University scored her the 2004 Young Alumni Award. Her husband, Charles E. Perez, is an alumnus and received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the College of Education.
