Slam Dunk Success
The name is Bond, Horace Bond. The 6'8" Islander men's basketball player from Gary, Ind., routinely draws the toughest defense assignments and is one of the top perimeter defenders in the Southland Conference. Horace, a sophomore majoring in sports management, wants to play pro basketball like his favorite stars Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Kevin Garnett and work in his area of study. Last season, Islander Athletics named Horace "Most Improved Player." This season he started all nine games. During his travels with the Islanders, he visited Canada, Florida and South Padre Island for the first time and met many new faces. Before each game, he mentally prepares by listening to five music tracks on his MP3 player and sporting a lucky white tank top under his jersey. Horace has a massive Nike and Air Jordan collection (more than 30 pairs) and a fancy corn snake named J. Smooth. At the Island University, Horace says he is fortunate to have met coaches and teammates that care and academic staff who want him to succeed.
