An Outstanding Islander

Baton-Twirling Sensation
The "Island Girl" effortlessly twirls three batons simultaneously, dances, and does the splits. Jennifer Kotzur, the University's first feature twirler, shows her Islander Spirit as she entertains campus crowds. The Stockdale native, who plans to teach social studies (grades 8-12), and is minoring in music and psychology, turned down two out-of-state scholarships to attend the Island University and to stay close to home. The senior began twirling in 2000 and was the only Texas baton twirling representative at the 2008 AAU Junior Olympic Games/National Championship where she earned two national titles. Jennifer will represent the University in the Intercollegiate and National High School Baton Twirling Championships held at the Dugan Wellness Center Feb. 28. She's on the World Baton Twirling Federation's International Cup Team representing the USA this August in Sydney, Australia. Jennifer launched the Island Corp Auxiliary Performers and is also an Island Caller, Rec Sports facility supervisor, fitness instructor, Student Government Association senator and plays clarinet in the Islander Pep Band and the Symphonic Winds.
