An Outstanding Islander

Our Greatest Athletic Booster
The triumphant stories of our Islander student-athletes inspire Arthur Haas to give 110 percent every day. The associate athletic director for development and marketing was born and raised in Corpus Christi and arrived at the Island University in 1999 from Atlanta, Ga., where he was the director of revenue management for Omni Hotel. As the Islanders continue to build the Division I athletic program, Haas oversees the revenue streams for Islander Athletics which include the departments' annual giving program, Tarpon Foundation, corporate sponsorships and ticketing. Before graduating from Ray High School in 1989, where he played soccer, golf and baseball, he attended Incarnate Word Academy. Later, he received a golf scholarship to St. Edward's University. In turn, Haas, the youngest of eight children, wants to provide that financial boost and other opportunities to our deserving student-athletes so they can compete in sports while receiving a high quality education. He takes pleasure seeing freshman student-athletes transform into mature adults, improve their athletic skills and earn their college degrees. Oftentimes, he says, the student-athletes are the first in their families to graduate from college. In addition, Haas deeply values the lifelong friendships he has made within the community and his connections with University of Corpus Christi Tarpon athletes from the 1950s and 1960s. In the community, Haas serves on several boards including National Little League and the El Socorro annual golf tournament benefiting the Corpus Christi Ronald McDonald House. He's active in volunteer efforts as a Little League Baseball coach at St. Patrick's Church, Timon's Ministries and Sail Corpus Christi, to name a few.
