Enjoying the "Art" of Enrichment
Coming to work every day is invigorating for Joe Schenk, director of the Art Museum of South Texas. Schenk says he can't imagine a better art venue. Affiliated with the University, the Museum is a wonderful anchor at the opposite end of Corpus Christi Bay. The former executive director of the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, Okla., and the Mobile Museum of Art in Mobile, Ala., recently celebrated one year with the Art Museum. He also was elected to the board of the Mountain Plains Museums Association representing Texas and nine other states. Schenk loves meeting new people - and it shows. His work with staff, volunteers, artists and collectors supports his mission in building and maintaining an institution the community appreciates. The Art Museum's programs enrich the lives of those beyond our University by offering a broad variety of educational programs and resources for kids, adults, families, schools and community groups.
