A Run for Excellence
Meghan Lemke takes pride in competition, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and being the Island University's track and cross country team captain. The Tomahawk, Wis., resident chose Texas A&M-Corpus Christi from several schools across the nation for its warm vibes and cheerful teammates. The senior majoring in both human resources management and marketing graduates in May 2010. Lemke, whose parents are runners and her No. 1 fans, admits that prior to joining the high school track team, she wasn't very athletic. Now she says running has changed her life. This spring Lemke won first place in the Southland Conference's 1,500-meter race and qualified for regionals, where she ran her personal best time of 4:33, setting a new University record. She was also the first female in track to score a point at the regional level. Her running performance has earned her a full four-year University scholarship. But Lemke also excels in academics. The 2008 Student Athlete Committee president is on the Dean's List and on the Southland Conference All-Academic Team. This spring, she joined the Society for Advancement of Management, where she plans to work into a leadership role. Recently, she completed an internship for the Regional Transportation Authority, working alongside a human resources analyst and manager. Her younger brother, Cody, begins school this fall at the University and will also represent the men's cross country and track teams.
