The Art of Cleanliness
Keeping the Art Museum of South Texas immaculately clean for visitors to enjoy year-round is top priority for Mary Dueñes. As custodian III, Dueñes is responsible for polishing all the flooring inside the two buildings that house the Art Museum. And she doesn't stop there. The former crew leader, who has kept the Island University looking neat for nearly eight years, takes pride in making sure windows are streak-free and stairways, offices and restrooms are spotless. The Corpus Christi native also assists in setting up for numerous upscale Art Museum functions including gallery openings, weddings, family activities and weekend and holiday events. For the last two years, Dueñes has worked at the Museum with co-worker Cynthia Fuentes where she is fortunate enough to experience the tranquil view of the bay and sight of nearby dolphins every day. Dueñes enjoys being a part of the University atmosphere and family, learning about the artwork on display and meeting area students who tour the exhibits. In her free time, she enjoys swimming, sewing, shopping and spending time with her husband, Robert, and four children. Her brother, Daniel "Danny" Salazar, has been a University groundskeeper for nearly 20 years.
