Dr. Donald Deis is impressed with the hard work, determination and appreciation of Island University students pursuing academic success. Deis, a University alumnus (BA ’75 and MBA ’77) and Corpus Christi native who was the first in his family to go to college, says he was excited to return to his alma mater in fall 2004 as the first holder of the Ennis and Virginia Joslin Endowed Chair in Accounting. Before returning to the Island University, Deis held the Joseph A. Silvoso Distinguished Director post at the University of Missouri-Columbia and spent 10 years as the doctoral program advisor at Louisiana State University. Recently, he received the 2010 Outstanding Alumni Award from the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Alumni Association. Between 1982-1983, Deis, who is also chair of the Accounting and Business Law Department, served as president of the National Alumni Association and was instrumental in establishing the National Alumni Association and the local area chapter, the Corpus Christi Area Alumni Club. Deis and his wife, Kathy, also a University alumnus, generously contribute their time to the University and have established two scholarship funds assisting accounting and nursing students. In addition, Deis and Kathy are co-chairs of the faculty/staff part of the Momentum Capital Campaign and are members of the Tarpon Foundation and the President’s Council. For his latest project, Deis is in the process of funding a scholarship to honor the memory of John J. Buckley, a College of Business graduate who co-founded the National Alumni Association with Deis, and was awarded the 2007 G. Russell Kirkland Distinguished Award in Business Administration from the College of Business.
