Savvy Problem Solver
Biochemistry major Claire Johnson will graduate in May debt free thanks to scholarships she earned while at the Island University. The senior with a 4.0 grade point average received the University Honors Scholarship, the South Texas Academic Rising Scholars Scholarship, the Nueces County Medical Society Scholarship and the Corpus Christi Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Mano A Mano Scholarship. The Corpus Christi native, who describes herself as a "problem solver," became fascinated by experiments in her King High School chemistry class. After graduating from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, she hopes to teach and conduct environmental research. Currently, Johnson works on campus with Printing Services, tutors middle and high school students in science and math through a private company, and teaches "Children's Church" at Corpus Christi Christian Fellowship. As assistant director of the Television and Video Ministry, she oversees sound mixing for church television programs and live Internet streaming. Johnson is also an elected member of Alpha Epsilon Delta Health Honor Society and member of the Golden Key International Honour Society.
