5 Reasons You Should Sign Up for The Big Event

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –The Big Event is an annual day of service where the Island University gives back to the coastal community through acts of charity. In 2018 alone, more than 900 participants helped 62 locations around the local area. This volunteer day grows each year and here is why you should get involved.

  1. Give Back to Your Community

The Coastal Bend community supports the Island University, so it’s important that we support them as well. The Big Event is about creating a lasting impact on our surrounding area and strengthening our relationships throughout Corpus Christi. Our Islanders are working to make the Coastal Bend a better place.

  1. Be Part of a Growing Initiative on Campus

Each year, the Big Event grows exponentially in its size and scope. Since its inception nearly 11 years ago, over 4,000 Islander participants have taken part in this volunteer event. Help make this year the largest one yet, join this wave of charity!

  1. Be Active for a Cause

This event is a good way to get out and get some exercise without even trying. Be aware that heat in South Texas doesn’t have a reputation for being timid, so make sure to wear breathable clothing and dress comfortably!

  1. Bond with Your Peers

You don’t have to go at it alone. You can sign up for the Big Event individually or as a group. See if any of your friends are interested in forming a team, because volunteering together is a great way to bond with your fellow students. If you’re part of an organization, a fraternity, sorority, or club; you should chat with some of your fellow group members to see if they’ve already formed a Big Event squad.

  1. Get a Free Shirt!

Chances are, you’ve seen a few of your fellow students rocking shirts from past Big Events. Wouldn’t you like to be one of them? Wear your shirt like a badge of honor, showing that you have gone above and beyond as an ambassador of the Island University.
