CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Continuing its mission to promote economic growth and stability in the Coastal Bend, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s Coastal Bend Business Innovation Center is providing giant opportunities to small business owners during a three-day workshop called “Doing Business with Giants.” All small business owners who are interested in doing business with large firms are encouraged to attend the free event, running Monday, Aug. 28 through Wednesday, Aug. 30, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Business Innovation Center, located at 10201 SPID, in Flour Bluff.

“This workshop is a learning opportunity to increase the knowledge of the local small business community,” said Russell Franques, Business Innovation Center Associate Director. “We’ve invited large industry partners, both public and private, to share their process for accepting business and contracts with smaller businesses. They will divulge first-class, up to date information on best practices when trying to become part of an approved vendor network.”

Each day of the workshop features different panelists – each representing a large business in Nueces County – who will give an overview of the specific rules and regulations for doing business with their firm. They will then engage in an interactive question and answer period with those in attendance. The event will conclude each day with a free boxed lunch and networking opportunities. “Doing Business with Giants” will be moderated by Dr. Mark Weaver, Visiting Professor of Entrepreneurship at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Dr. Kent Byus, Chair of the Management and Marketing Department and Professor of Marketing and Entrepreneurship at A&M-Corpus Christi, is assisting with event coordination.

“Our goal is to empower the small business community and drive the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Coastal Bend forward,” said Byus. “We believe small business doing business with big business is key to that success.”

Panelists for workshop include:

  • Monday, August 28 - City of Corpus Christi, Corpus Christi Independent School District, Fulton Construction and Valero Refining
