CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi celebrated the closing of the inaugural “Islander Sound Waves: Summer Camp for Singers” with a finale performance on Friday, July 25, in the Performing Arts Center.
Students performed both ensemble and solo excerpts from the musical South Pacific by Rodgers and Hammerstein as family and friends watched enthusiastically. Students, dressed in colorful leis, gave lively performances that kept the audience members entertained.
The University’s “Islander Sound Waves: Summer Camp for Singers” offers high school students the opportunity to spend one week at the Island University for music, study, and fun. All students received private voice lessons, acting instruction for singers, foreign language diction, sight-singing practice, and all state music preparation. In addition, students attended a college audition workshop, vocal health class, and fun social activities. Students also had the opportunity to work with the award-winning Texas A&M-Corpus Christi voice and choral faculty, as well as guest artists and directors.
