SAN ANTONIO, Texas –The Student Support Services and McNair Scholars Programs at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi took part in the 2014 National TRIO Day. The event was hosted by the University of Texas-San Antonio TRIO Programs and the San Antonio Spurs on February 1 at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.
At this year’s celebration, a total of 525 students and sponsors from across San Antonio, Houston, San Marcos, and the Rio Grande Valley joined together to celebrate TRIO Programs and the positive impact the program has on their lives and communities.
“TRIO is an amazing program that encourages me to accomplish what may seem impossible,” said Yuliana Almanza, education major. “Because of the support we receive from members, educational opportunities, and tutoring sessions, TRIO has become my family away from home.”
TRIO works with students of high potential from typically under-represented groups in Texas higher education. The federally-funded program is committed to providing students with all the assistance and skill necessary in meeting their academic needs.
National TRIO Day focuses on helping disadvantaged young people and adults aspiring to improve their lives to become contributing citizens of the country.
