Greek man and woman

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas— The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Greek community says this year’s man and woman of the year set examples on campus for their student community leadership.

Juan "Manny" Diaz, of Delta Chi Fraternity, and Kristen Garza, of Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority, were judged by their peers and advisors on several categories including grades, leadership, chapter involvement and community service.

Diaz is an Integrated Biology major whose fraternity brothers describe as a leader and motivator.  He was picked based on his high grades, service to his fraternity and over 240 hours of community service. Diaz graduated in May and will be attending veterinary school in the fall at Texas A&M University in College Station.

“Being Greek is not a decision, but a lifestyle; a lifestyle of dedicated service,” said Diaz. “My fraternity has taught me about love, compassion and loyalty.  These are characteristics that can’t be taught in a classroom.”

Garza is a Nursing major who has dedicated time and effort to her sorority through various leadership roles and opportunities.  Her advisors say she lives her values and is an example for new members to follow.    Garza is also the new President of the Multicultural Greek Council.

“Being a part of Sigma Lambda Gamma has taught me so much about myself and life,” said Garza. “I will always be grateful and take pride in being part of such an amazing organization.”
