CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s Department of Theatre presents the 4th Annual Summer Show for Youth. Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach, kicked off with an exciting matinee performance Thursday, Aug. 1.

Adapted by Richard George and directed by Kayla Gaar and Rafael Juarez, this adventure of James Henry Trotter will fulfill the fantasy of anyone who has ever dreamed of escape. Roald Dahl's story comes hilariously to life in this delightful dramatization that reveals the wickedness of some, the goodness of others, and the indecision encountered by many when they are faced with crises.

Both student directors, Gaar and Juarez, are part of the Nation Theatre Honors Society, Alpha Psi Omega. Gaar has been president of the organization for two years and has decided to get the group more involved in the summer productions. The actors in this show are all University theatre students.

"It’s an exciting endeavor," said co-director Kayla Gaar. "We are looking forward to sharing with everyone what we have created this upcoming week and to take the audience on the adventure with us of James and the Giant Peach!"

If you missed the matinee, you can still catch a performance on Friday, Aug. 2, at 7 p.m., and on Saturday, August 3, at 2 p.m., in the Performing Arts Center.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $7.50 for children 10 and under, and can be purchased online at by clicking here or in person at the PAC box office one hour before each performance. All proceeds will benefit the University Theatre Student Scholarship Fund.
