Middleton Asia Vac

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Dr. Karen L. Middleton, Professor of Management for the College of Business, recently returned from a seven-week vacation to Asia and New Zealand, where she had the opportunity to visit international students and graduates from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

During her summer vacation, Middleton toured Hawaii, New Zealand, and several countries throughout Asia. While visiting Vietnam, she met with both current and former Texas A&M-Corpus Christi students.

University alumni Linh Hoang and Anh Phuong Nguyen were students in her MBA Organizational Behavior course while at Texas A&M- Corpus Christi. Both former students joined her for dinner in Ho Chi Minh City, and gave her advice about local attractions to visit.

“The reunion dinners and conversations with these students were most enjoyable,” said Middleton.

Linh Hoang came with her son, Long, who was born when she was a student in Middleton’s class. Hoang has worked for two different firms since her return to Vietnam, but is now a stay-at-home mother.

Nguyen is currently working in logistics at a local firm in Ho Chi Minh City.

Steven Tran, a student in his final undergraduate semester at the University, took Middleton on a tour by taxi through the city of Hanoi. Tran was helpful in locating the attractions that were “must see” locations, including the Fine Art Museum, 11th century Confucian temple, and the first university in Vietnam.

In 2009-2010, Middleton spent six months in Taipei, Taiwan, as a Fulbright Scholar at Yuan Ze University where she taught strategic management to undergraduate and MBA students. In addition, she presented a six-series lecture to MBA students, traveled to Hong Kong and Macau as a senior researcher and was listed on the National Science Council of Taiwan Researchers’ Database.
