Graduate Symposium Recognizes Top Presenters

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Island University held its seventh annual Graduate Student Scholarly Symposium on May 3 in the University Center, Lone Star Ballroom.

A total of 25 presenters, who gave poster and oral presentations, represented the College of Education, the College of Business, the College of Liberal Arts, and the College of Science and Engineering. All presentations were scored by faculty judges who awarded prizes and certificates of excellence to the top-scoring presenters.

 

 

The symposium winners were:   

  • Overall first prize winner:  Laura Bierstedt, who is earning a Master of Arts in Psychology, received $250 for her presentation titled “Exploring the Relationship Between Shyness and Alcohol Expectancies   

 

  • Second prize, oral presentation: Brittany Blomberg, who is earning a PhD. In Coastal & Marine System Science, received $100 for her presentation titled “Progress of a Restored Oyster Reef in South Texas: The FirstYear”                      

 

  • Second prize, poster presentation: Greg Griffith, who is earning a Master of Art in History, received $100 for “Untitled”

 

  • Third prize, oral presentation: Ming Yang Teng, who is earning a Master of Science in Computer Science received $25 for his presentation titled “Developing and Parallelizing Hyperspectral Imaging Algorithms using Commodity Graphic Processing Units”

 

  • Third prize, poster presentation: Justin Powell, who is earning a Master of Science, in Kinesiology, was awarded $25 for his presentation titled “The Relationship Between Visual Skills and Reactive Agility”

 

  • Second prize, poster presentation: Greg Griffith, who is earning a Master of Art in History, received $100 for “Untitled”
