CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A new 12-foot high bronze and aluminum sculpture recently installed at the Downtown Police Station in Corpus Christi was designed by internationally-known metal artist Jack Gron, University Professor and Chair of the Department of Art.

Preliminary construction to install the sculpture began in April 2013, but the sculpture was authorized in 2010 and recommended by the City’s Arts & Cultural Commission. The sculpture, which is attached to a free-standing wall, is based upon the peace officer’s badge or shield utilizing the eagle and star forms as the central symbols.

Gron has more than 30 years of experience in the design, fabrication, and installation of public sculpture in metal. His work appears in a number of public and private collections across the United States, Canada, England, and Poland.

The funding for the sculpture was made available through the City’s “Percent for Art” ordinance which sets aside 1.25 percent of qualifying capital construction project costs for public art.
