CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Approximately 120 University students were presented with their official Texas A&M-Corpus Christi rings before family and friends on Friday, April 26, in the Performing Arts Center.

During the Official Ring Ceremony, students walked across the stage to receive their rings from University President Flavius Killebrew and have their photos taken.  A welcome and introduction were given by John O. Steward Jr. (’06 and ’10), President of the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi National Alumni Association.

Three students received complementary rings from the University for their Outstanding Achievements. The Legacy Ring recipients were:

  •  Melanie Lowry – Head Coach of the Islanders Cheer and Dance Team, who has been essential to the Islanders spirit tradition for eight years.
  •  Matthew Daniels – Member of the Islander Battalion and President of Sigma Phi Epsilon, who has a guaranteed position with the Army after graduation.
  •  Ashley Darley – Guard on the Islanders women’s basketball team and member of the outdoor track team, who will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.

In addition, Dr. Trent Hill, Vice President of Institutional Advancement, spoke about the University’s history and the rings as a symbol of the Alumni Association. The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi ring symbolizes pride, achievement, and university spirit.

The ring ceremony is a special campus tradition. Receipt of the ring signifies that the student has completed 65+ hours and is close to becoming a member of the Islander Alumni network.

All ring ceremony participants are granted associate membership into the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi National Alumni Association.
