‘Avenue Q’ Entertains Crowds with Superior Puppeteering Skills, Comedy

April 19, 2013

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Department of Theatre and Dance entertained a Warren Theatre audience with superior puppeteering skills, racy jokes, comedy, and heart-felt moments during the opening night performance of “Avenue Q: The Musical” on April 16.

Performances will run through Sunday, April 21. Show times are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee in the Warren Theatre, Center for the Arts.

The University production, which is intended only for adults, is directed by Kelly Russell, Associate Professor of Theatre. “Avenue Q” has received the Tony “Triple Crown” for Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book.

The musical tells the story of a recent college graduate named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that although the residents seem nice, it's clear that this is not your ordinary neighborhood. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life.
