Graduate Teaching Assistants, Romeo Garcia and Michelle Garza, both received Scholars for the Dream travel awards for their presentations at the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC) held March 13-16 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Both Garcia and Garza were chosen for their awards based on the originality of their research and their overall contributions to the field. The Conference on College Composition and Communication sponsors the “Scholars for the Dream” Awards to encourage scholarship by historically underrepresented groups. Recipients of the awards receive monetary travel awards and a one-year membership to both the CCCC and the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).

The annual CCCC supports and promotes the teaching and study of college composition and communication by sponsoring meetings and publishing scholarly materials for the exchange of knowledge about composition, composition pedagogy, and rhetoric.

Also, the CCCC works to enhance the conditions for learning and teaching college composition through promoting professional development and acting as an advocate for language and literacy education nationally and internationally.
