CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Department of English held its annual Authors’ Day Program on March 21-22 featuring internationally-recognized author Linda Hogan, Writer-in-Residence for “The Chickasaw Nation.” The events included a reading and book signing, a reception, and a high school writing workshop with Hogan, a public speaker and writer of poetry, fiction, and essays.

Students and residents from the local community gathered to listen to Hogan at a poetry reading and book signing on March 21. Hogan read some of her favorite work, most concerning nature and the Earth. Following the reading, guests were able to meet with Hogan to have a piece of work signed by the award-winning author herself.

On March 22, area high school students from Miller, Moody, and Tuloso-Midway participated in a variety of writing workshops, including a writing seminar taught by Hogan. Students also had the opportunity to read their own writings for  Hogan and their peers during an open mic session. A variety of pieces including poetry entries, short stories, and songs were shared among the aspiring young writers.

Hogan’s main interests as both writer and scholar are environmental issues, indigenous spiritual traditions, and culture. The author has earned much national recognition, including being a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and a winner of the American Book Award.
