Kathryn Funk-Baxter Inducted into Y Women in Careers Hall of Fame

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Kathryn Funk-Baxter, Executive Vice President of Finance and Administration at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, will be inducted into the Y Women in Careers Hall of Fame during the 33rd annual YWCA awards banquet on Thursday, March 7.

She is one of the eight Coastal Bend women who will be honored for their professional accomplishments, contributions to the community, and for serving as a role model to girls.

During her 18-year tenure at the University, she has made it top priority to maximize University dollars in order to keep tuition low and allow the Island University to make higher education accessible to as many students as possible. Her leadership with carefully-planned projects has allowed the University to adequately prepare for our unprecedented growth, which includes upgrades in technology, new buildings, and new spaces for recreation. She has also been instrumental in making the Island University a “green” university, with projects that include research-geared wind turbines and the water-efficient restrooms in our new buildings.

Funk-Baxter, who serves as a sponsor on the Staff Advisory Council, has also provided her service to the community and the field of accounting as a leader of several organizations. She has chaired several committees from the Southern Association of Colleges & University Business Officers, and served on the National Council. She was also President of the Corpus Christi CPA Chapter for 2009-2010 and served as Treasurer of the Southside Corpus Christi Rotary Club in 2007.

Funk-Baxter received her Bachelor of Business Administration from Southwest Texas State University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
