SAMC Speaker Series Debuts with Artist James Victore

November 09, 2012

Emmy award-winning director, designer, and author James Victore spoke on “Your Work is a Gift,” before a packed audience on Nov. 8 in the University Center, Lone Star Ballroom,

Victore, a Professor at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, was the debut speaker in the new School of Arts, Media & Communication Speaker Series. In addition to winning an Emmy for television animation, Victore’s posters have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and are a permanent part of collections at the Palais du Louvre in Paris, France; the Design Museum in Zurich, Switzerland; the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands; and the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. His book "Victore or, Who Died and Made You Boss?" was released by Abrams in 2010.

Earlier in the day, Victore held a workshop with University students. And, prior to the evening lecture, SAMC hosted a gallery opening for an exhibition of more than 30 rare, one-of-a-kind Victore posters in the Weil Gallery on the first floor of the Center for the Arts. The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, will remain on display through Friday, Nov. 30.

On Nov. 9, Victore discussed his individual works during a Gallery Talk in the Weil Gallery.

The School of Arts, Media & Communication was created to support growing programs that have nearly doubled in majors since 2002. The new school, which is part of the College of Liberal Arts, consists of four departments: Art, Communication & Media, Music, and Theatre & Dance.
