Welcome to the Island! New Campus Facility Provides Students with One-Stop Application Assistance

August 08, 2012

Local dignitaries joined the University community today (Wednesday, Aug. 8) in celebrating the grand opening of the new Islander Welcome Center located at the heart of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi campus.

The welcome center will serve as a starting point for prospective students and their parents. With full-time University employees to assist them, students are able to finalize their application in one visit and walk away knowing that they are now a member of the Islander community.

“What truly sets our welcome center apart is the complete package of services that visitors can get in this one-stop shop,” said University President Flavius Killebrew. “We are one of the top research institutions in the state and it is this focus on moving South Texas ahead that we have embodied in the welcome center equipped with cutting-edge technology.”

The state-of-the-art facility, which is adjacent to the Bell Library next to Lee Plaza, provides prospective students with work stations to fill out scholarship, financial aid, and admissions forms. Visitors also have access to interactive touchscreen campus maps and a 32-seat media room to take a closer look at all the campus has to offer.

With more than a quarter billion dollars in construction over the last eight years, we are now seeing the fruits of careful planning and long-term vision,” added Killebrew. “It was the creation of Lee Plaza and the construction of the O’Connor building that allowed us to place this welcome center in the heart of our beautiful campus.”
