Dr. Mary Jane Garza Receives Award for Commitment to Literacy

Dr. Mary Jane GarzaCORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Dr. Mary Jane Garza was presented with the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Student Reading Council (SRC) Literacy Award at the SRC’s annual Literacy Award Luncheon held April 7 at the University campus. The annual award is given to a community member for their outstanding contributions and/or promotions of literacy. 

Garza, who serves as a military school liaison officer in the Department of Defense for the United States Navy at NAS-Corpus Christi, was chosen by the committee for her commitment to literacy in public school and her work and involvements in various community organizations and higher education formats. She is also chair of the Corpus Christi chapter of the Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas and a major supporter and contributor of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Annual Reading Conference.
