Shelby East Out-Performs Field of More Than 140 Contestants To Win ‘Corpus Christi Idol 2012’ Solo Talent Competition

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – It was a sweep for the women on Saturday night, March 31, as Shelby East (from left) took first place, and Sierra Howe and Ally O’Boyle finished second and third respectively in the finals of the “Corpus Christi Idol 2012” solo talent competition at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s Performing Arts Center.

East, who outperformed more than nine other finalists to win the competition, took the $500 first prize. Howe received $300 for placing second, while O’Boyle’s performance earned her a $200 prize for taking third. Other top 10 finishers were Melissa Blanchard, Ava Lauren Garza, Andrea Guzman, Daryl Gaspar, JonMikael Ramirez, Sessle Sarpy, and Eddie Silguero.

More than 140 Coastal Bend residents signed up for the event which was sponsored by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Department of Theatre and Dance. In a face-off between 20 semi-finalists on Friday, March 30, voters selected the 10 acts that advanced to Saturday’s final round.
