Jody Nelsen Named Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Jody Nelsen, associate vice president for Business Affairs at the University of Texas at Dallas, is the new executive vice president for Finance and Administration at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

Nelsen, who will fill the position vacated by the retirement of Robert L. Lovitt, will assume her new duties on Monday, Aug. 4. In making the announcement, University President Flavius Killebrew said that Nelsen’s breadth of experience at a growing university makes her an ideal fit for A&M-Corpus Christi.

“Over the last 20 years, Jody Nelsen has been an integral part of a University that has grown in enrollment and stature in a metropolitan area that is home to several major institutions of higher learning,” said Killebrew. “The knowledge and experience she brings to the position will benefit the University greatly as A&M-Corpus Christi continues to expand in both size and vision.”

As executive vice president for Finance and Administration, Nelsen will be responsible for management of the University’s general financial operations, including preparation of financial reports, financial analyses and appropriate internal controls. As an advisor to President Killebrew, she will also participate in the preparation of the institutional budgets, strategic plans and legislative appropriation requests.

Nelsen’s other responsibilities will include coordinating the University’s safety program, physical plant operations, and planning, design, and construction of physical facilities. She will also oversee the human resource and equal employment and employee relations programs.

“I am thrilled to join the leadership team at A&M-Corpus Christi,” said Nelsen. “It’s a great opportunity to be on a growing campus in a beautiful part of Texas. The university is riding an exciting wave of momentum under Dr. Killebrew’s leadership, and I look forward to making a contribution to both the campus and the community.”

Nelsen, a summa cum laude graduate in Business Administration from Loyola University in Chicago, began her career at the University of Texas at Dallas in 1991 as manager of Administrative Services. In 1997, she received her Master of Business Administration degree from the university and, after serving as assistant director of the physical plant from 1994-96, she became assistant vice president for Business Affairs.

Within that office Nelsen worked as associate vice president for Administration and Compliance and later as associate vice president for Business Affairs. She served as interim vice president for Business Affairs from September 2006 through August 2007.
