CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Dr. John Franklin Copper, author of more than 20 books on Asia and international affairs, will speak on “Taiwan’s Role in the World” at the World Affairs Council of South Texas luncheon Wednesday, May 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Omni Bayfront Tower, 900 N. Shoreline Blvd.

Copper, the Stanley J. Buckman Distinguished Professor of International Studies at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., will address Taiwan’s ongoing tensions with China beginning with the establishment of the Nationalist government in 1949 to the election of new President Ma Ying-jeou in March.

In addition, Copper, who serves on the board of directors for the American Association for Chinese Studies, has contributed to more than 40 books, published more than 70 articles and has taught in Asia for more than 13 years.
