Pulitzer Prize-Winning Play ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ Opens April 17 at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Playwright Tennessee Williams’ famed love-tragedy “A Streetcar Named Desire” will be performed April 17-20 and April 24-27 at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

The University Theatre performances will be in the Wilson Theatre in the Center for the Arts. Times are at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.

“A Streetcar Named Desire” won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1948 and transformed the American Theatre of the 20th century. The University’s performance will be directed by Chris Lusk, assistant professor of theatre.

The play was adapted into the 1951 Academy Award-winning motion picture starring Vivien Leigh and Marlon Brando. The plot involves the continued confrontations between faded and fragile southern belle Blanche Dubois and the sexually aggressive Stanley Kowalski, husband to Dubois’ sister, Stella.

“A Streetcar Named Desire” is for mature audiences. Tickets are $8 for general admission, $7 for seniors and military, $5 for faculty and staff, and $3 for students with SandDollar I.D. For more information or tickets, call 361.825.5800.
