| CSET Camp at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Offers $1,000 Scholarships to 30 Incoming Freshmen |
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Thirty incoming freshman at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will have an opportunity to earn $1,000 scholarships by participating in the Computer Science and Engineering Technology (CSET) Summer Camp on campus Monday, Aug. 4, through Saturday, Aug. 9.
The camp, which will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily with a half-day session Saturday, is designed to introduce students to the fields of computer science and engineering technology. Admission to the free camp is limited to the first qualified 30 incoming freshmen who apply online at http://csci.tamucc.edu/cset. After completing the CSET camp students must enroll in either the Introduction to Computers or the Introduction to Problem Solving with Computers class for the fall 2008 semester to receive the $1,000 scholarship.
“According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the demand for computer science professionals is expected to grow by 37 percent between 2006 and 2016,” said Dr. John Fernandez, chair of the Department of Computing Sciences. “After just four years at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, a graduate can earn an excellent salary in one of the fastest-growing occupations in the United States.”
The CSET camp includes breakfast and lunch each day and all necessary books and supplies. Students will arrive on campus at 7:30 a.m. and will meet with the faculty and student assistants for breakfast. After breakfast, they will attend sessions on creating virtual worlds, engineering technology, critical thinking, software skills and other topics. Saturday’s activities will include a farewell lunch.
