CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Around 35 middle school students will test their knowledge on topics that include marine life and the chemical and physical properties of sea water during the Oceanography Challenge (OC) Saturday, Feb. 2, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Educational Center for Math and Science at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
The College of Education will collaborate with the Texas State Aquarium to sponsor the Oceanography Challenge, an academic competition that engages middle school students in an active study program on marine environments and conservation initiatives.
The competition was developed to continue the experience of the aquarium’s Oceans in Jeopardy (OIJ) elementary tournament, designed for fifth-grade students and based on the television game show “Jeopardy,” where the students select topics and answer questions with different categories providing different point values. In addition, these competitions give teachers a viable tool to increase interest in education and address the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). |
