CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Around 15 ninth-graders from the Moody High School Innovation Academy will collect fish, crab, shrimp and other samples Saturday, April 12, at the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Laguna Madre Field Station.

During the Laguna Outreach Project, Innovation Academy educators and students will spend the night at the field station, collect research data and interact with University professors and Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico scientists and students.

The interdisciplinary research and education initiative, started in fall 2007, is a partnership between the Harte Research Institute and the Corpus Christi Independent School District. Its purpose is to introduce Innovation Academy high school teachers and students to the Upper Laguna Madre and establish a long-term monitoring research and education project for the area surrounding the Laguna Madre Field Station.
