Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Production of ‘Anima Mundi’ to Open the Fall Theatre Season in October

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Theatre Department at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will present “Anima Mundi” Thursday, Oct. 11, through Saturday, Oct. 13, and Thursday, Oct. 18, through Saturday, Oct. 20, in the Warren Theatre in the Center for the Arts. Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays. Matinee performances are Sunday, Oct. 14, and Sunday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m.

Latin for “soul of the world,” the award-winning, poetic play written by Don Nigro, is directed by Kelly Russell, assistant professor of communication and theater, and traces a young American’s search for his elusive love, God and the meaning of art in a stunning tapestry of memories and nightmares. This magical drama is central to Nigro’s cycle of Pendragon plays.

“’Anima Mundi’ is one of my favorite plays of all time,” Russell said. “It has everything—drama, comedy, and thought-provoking themes. I have wanted to direct the show for years, and finally found the right time, place and cast.”

The story unfolds as David Armitage travels to London in 1900, falls in love with a troubled dancer and has his fortune told by Madame Blavatsky. With each turn of her tarot cards, a scene from David’s future is revealed. Throughout his life’s journey, he meets a host of literary icons including Oscar Wilde, W.B. Yeats and Ezra Pound.

He also faces the horrors of World War I and struggles to understand the significance of his existence.
Ticket prices are $8 for general admission, $7 for seniors and military and $3 for students with SandDollar ID. For more information or to order tickets, call 361.825.5800.
