Skateboarder to Tell Inspiring Story of Overcoming Disability

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Islander Cultural Alliance will host an evening with pro skateboarder Jon Comer Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the University Center, Lone Star Ballroom as part of National Disability Awareness Month. The event is free and open to the public.

Comer, who skates with a prosthetic leg, will discuss how he overcame his disability and achieved his dream of becoming a pro skateboarder. A question-and-answer session will follow at 8:30 p.m.

Comer, the subject of the 2004 documentary film “Never Been Done: The Jon Comer Story,” is from Keller and tours the country presenting demonstrations that inspire others to reach their goals. Comer became pro after years of competing in skateboard contests around the country. He has performed demonstrations for more than five years with the Vans Warped Tour and skateboard models with both Powell and Gringo Skateboards.
