Four Days of ‘Dia de los Muertos’ Observations to Honor Lives of Deceased and Celebrate the Continuation of Life

Corpus Christi, Texas – The College of Education at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will host a free four-day “Dia de los Muertos” (Day of the Dead) celebration Thursday, Nov. 1, through Monday Nov, 4.

Each year “Dia de los Muertos” observances are held in many Latin American countries to honor the lives of the deceased and celebrate the continuation of life and death as the beginning of a new stage in life. The four-day celebration is co-sponsored by the University’s Antonio E. Garcia Arts & Education Center, in partnership with Fighting to Rid Gangs in America, Fuerza Comunicaria, and Amigos de Mexico. Scheduled events include:

Thursday, Nov. 1 – Fighting to Rid Gangs in America will have children’s activities such as “How to Make a Calavera Mask” and “How to Create Papel Picada” from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at 2121 Mary St.

Friday, Nov. 2 – There will be a short presentation on the history of “Dia de los Muertos” along with a performance of a traditional danza by Aztec dancers from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Antonio E. Garcia Arts & Education Center, 2021 Agnes St.

Saturday, Nov. 3, and Sunday, Nov 4 – Altars created to celebrate “Dia de los Muertos” will be on display from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Antonio E. Garcia Arts & Education Center.
