Honors Graduate to Address Fellow Students at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Spring 2007 Commencement

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Christina McAusland, a first-generation college student and honors graduate, will address more than 800 of her peers and their guests and families at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s 2007 spring commencement at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 12 at the American Bank.

McAusland, who will graduate Summa Cum Laude in English, was selected to address her fellow graduates based on academic performance and involvement in campus and community organizations.

“As a first generation college student, I am honored and grateful to have obtained my degree from one of the fastest-growing universities in the state,” McAusland said. “Through the gift of scholarships and challenging coursework A&M-Corpus Christi has made my dream of a college degree possible. As the University grows in size and prestige, it is important for graduates to develop a sense of responsibility and pride in ensuring the University’s continued growth.”

McAusland is treasurer of the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society, and a member of the College Republicans. She has worked as an Island Caller fundraiser, resident assistant for Camden Miramar and as a teacher’s assistant in the English Department. Her community service includes volunteering with the children’s reading group at Parkdale Elementary School and as a research assistant and grant writer for the Texas State Museum of Asian Cultures and Education Center in Corpus Christi.

In all, 830 students from the Colleges of Business, Education, Liberal Arts, Nursing and Health Sciences, and Science and Technology have applied for spring graduation. The University conducts three commencement ceremonies each year, in December, May and August.

The ceremony will be broadcast live beginning at 10:30 a.m. on KTOV channel 21 and by Time-Warner, Grande and Charter Communications on cable channel 15. The ceremony will be rebroadcast four consecutive Saturdays between May 19 and June 9 at 2 p.m. on educational access channel 19.
