Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi to Offer a Variety of Academic and Athletic Summer Camps for Area Youth

CORPUS CHRISTI - Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi faculty and staff will hold day, evening and overnight summer camps for area youth beginning Monday, June 4. Camp dates and information are as follows:

Monday, June 4 through Wednesday, June 6 – Islander softball coaches will hold an all skills camp for girls ages 8 to 13 from Monday, June 4 to Wednesday, June 6 from 9 a.m. to noon at Chapman Softball Field. The camp will focus on improving individual batting, pitching, fielding and other fundamental softball skills. Registration is $90 before Wednesday, May 30 or $100 after May 30. Monday, June 4 through Wednesday, June 6 – Islander softball coaches will hold and all skills camp for girls ages 14 to 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Chapman Softball Field. The camp will focus on improving participants’ individual batting, pitching, fielding and other fundamental softball skills. Registration is $90 pre-registration before Wednesday, May 30 or $100 after May 30. For more information, contact Tina McCauley at 361.825.3412.

Monday, June 4 through Thursday, June 7 – The Islander women’s basketball staff will hold a day camp for girls in grades three to 12 from Monday, June 4 through Thursday, June 7 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Moody Sustainers Field House. Registration is Monday, June 4 from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Moody Sustainers Field House. The camp will focus on improving dribbling, passing, shooting, and defensive fundamental skills. Every camper will be placed in her age or skill level to develop personal growth. Registration is $130 for one person or $105 per person with a friend. A $50 deposit is due by Friday, May 25. Monday, June 4 through Thursday, June 7 – Islander men’s basketball will hold the Perry Clark Islander Basketball Camp for boys ages 6 to 18 from Monday, June 4 through Thursday, June 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. The camp is designed to develop dribbling, passing, shooting, rebound and defense skills. Registration is $150 for one participant or $130 each for two-or-more participants. A $50 deposit is due by Friday, June 1. Campers must provide their own lunch. For more information, call 361.825.3417.

Friday, June 8 through Sunday, June 10 – The Athletics Department will hold its Islander basketball team camp for boys in grades six to 12 Friday, June 8 through Sunday, June 10. Sunday, June 17 through Saturday, June 30 – The Theatre Department will hold its “Camp on the Coast Summer Theatre Workshop” from Sunday, June 17 through Saturday, June 30. Participants will rehearse and perform a one-act play directed by one of four theatre educators. Students interested in performance will study acting, voice and movement in morning classes taught by Theatre Department faculty. Technical Theatre Students will attend classes in design, participate in the creation of each production's sets, lighting, and costumes, and serve as crew for the shows. Registration is $870 for students staying on campus; and $600 for commuter students or teachers. Monday, June 18 through Friday, June 29 – The Department of English will hold its 15th annual Young Authors’ Camp for students in grades three through five from Monday, June 18 through Friday, June 29 from 8:30 to 11:45 a.m. in the Early Childhood Development Center. The camp is designed to provide students with opportunities to expand their interest in writing and to experience writing as a fun and creative activity. Registration is $175 before Friday, June 1. Monday, June 25 through Thursday, June 28 – The Music Department will host the Solutions and Specialized Innovations (SASI) Drum Major and Leadership Camp from Monday, June 25 through Thursday, June 28 on the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi campus. The camp offers extensive training in conducting, marching fundamentals and leadership. Instruction will be provided by University of North Texas and Cedar Park High School staffs. The deadline for enrollment is Friday, June 15. Registration is $400 for resident tuition and $250 for commuter tuition which also covers meals. Sunday, July 8 through Tuesday, July 10 – An Islanders Volleyball Camp for novice players up to grade eight will be held from Sunday, July 8 through Tuesday, July 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Moody Sustainers Field House. Campers will receive instruction in general skills including passing, setting, serving and hitting. Registration is $125 through Friday, June 29 and $150 after June 29. Sunday, July 8 through Tuesday, July 10 – An Islanders Volleyball Camp for advanced players in grades nine through 12 will be held Sunday, July 8 through Tuesday, July 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Moody Sustainers Field House. The camp will provide skill instruction with an emphasis on defensive and offensive transition. Registration is $125 through Friday, June 29 and $150 after June 29. Monday, July 9 through Friday, July 13 – The Music Department will hold its Islander Band Camp for middle, junior high and high school students from Monday, July 9 through Thursday, July 12 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday, July 13 from 8 a.m. to noon in the Center for the Arts. An end-of-camp concert will be presented at 5 p.m. Friday, July 13 in the Performing Arts Center. Students will participate in group lessons, sectionals, full ensemble rehearsals; and rudimental music theory, afternoon activities and recitals. The camp is open to students with at least one year of experience. Auditions for skills placement will be held Saturday, July 7 from 9 a.m. to noon. Students should bring audition music that best shows their skills and musicianship. Registration is $150 through Friday, June 1. Late registration is $170 through Saturday, July 7. Thursday, July 12 through Sunday, July 15 –The 16th annual Islander Cross Country Camp for middle and high school boys and girls will be held from Thursday, July 12 through Sunday, July 15 on the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi campus. Campers will learn the latest in running and training techniques, theories, nutrition, hydration, running footwear, analysis of form, pre-racing strategies and post-race evaluation. Registration is $300 for overnight campers and $150 for day campers with a $75 deposit due by Friday, July 6. A $25 late fee will be charged for all entries received beginning Saturday, July 7. Monday, July 16 through Friday, July 20 – The Music Department will hold its Islander Orchestra Camp from Monday, July 16 through Thursday, July 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Friday, July 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. The camp offers middle and high school students the opportunity to perform in a string orchestra, receive instrument-specific instruction, and be exposed to chamber music instruction and music theory concepts that will help them be well-rounded musicians. Auditions for placement will be held Sunday, July 15 from 2 to 5 p.m. Students should bring audition music that demonstrates their technical and musical abilities.
