Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Professor Named to Board of Examiners for Malcolm Baldridge Award

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Dr. Robert Vokurka, chair of the Department of Finance, Economics and Decision Sciences at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, has been appointed to the 2007 Board of Directors for the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award by William Jeffrey, director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The award, created by public law in 1987, is the highest level of national recognition for performance excellence that a U.S. organization can receive.
           
The board is composed of approximately 500 leading experts from industry, professional and trade organizations, education and healthcare organizations and government. As an examiner, Vokurka is responsible for reviewing and evaluating applications submitted for the award.

Vokurka has published more than 50 papers in journals including the Journal of Operations Management, the International Journal of Forecasting, the International Journal of Operations and Production Management, and the Production and Inventory Management Journal. He has more than 25 years of industry experience including positions of plant manager and division controller. He also holds certifications in accounting, resource management, purchasing, and quality including CPA, CMA, CFPIM, CIRM, C.P.M., CQE, CQIA, and CQM.

Vokurka , who received his bachelor’s degree from Albion College and his master’s degree in business administration from Northwestern University, earned his doctorate in operations management from Texas A&M University. Prior to his current appointment, he was a member of the Texas A&M University industrial distribution faculty in the College of Engineering.
