CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The College of Education at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will participate in the Nueces Country Diabetes Awareness & Wellness Fair Thursday, June 14, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Solomon Coles High School.
Healthy children’s activities will be led by early childhood students of Dr. Jana Sanders and Norma Zunker, professors in the University’s College of Education.

Kids ages 3 to 12 will rotate through 10 activities to include animal aerobics; a game on portion control; Fruggies, a game allowing kids to create faces with pictures of fruit; fruit and vegetable hopscotch and limbo. Children also will receive a healthy lunch.

“We have a real problem with children not understanding the concept of appropriate portion sizes,” said Sanders, associate professor of education. “These activities teach kids about living a healthy lifestyle and the joy of exercise and movement.”
After completing all activities, the child will receive a free booklet filled with kid-friendly recipes and activities created by Sanders’ early childhood class. Event partners include Nueces County Commissioners, Nueces County Hospital District, American Diabetes Association, Texas Cooperative Extension and Solomon Coles High school.
