FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE   DATE:  January 29, 2007        CONTACT: Evon English 361.825.5787; or Steve Paschal, (361) 825-2336 A&M-Corpus Christi Gears Up for Homecoming 2007 with Week of Activities for Students, Alumni and Community CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi alumni will join with current students and their families, and University faculty and staff to celebrate the 2007 Islander Homecoming and Parents Week from Monday, Jan. 29 through Saturday, Feb. 4.                                         The festivities celebrating the Island University’s history and traditions are sponsored by the A&M-Corpus Christi Alumni Association, the Student Affairs Office, the Campus Activities Board, and the Student Government Association.             According to the Alumni Association, an estimated 30,000 students have graduated from the University since the University of Corpus Christi opened its doors in 1947. All graduates and former students from the University of Corpus Christi, Texas A&I University at Corpus Christi, Corpus Christi State University and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi are considered to be alumni.     Events open to the public include: Wednesday, Jan. 31 Women’s Basketball – The Islanders will take on Stephen F. Austin in Southland Conference play at 7 p.m. at the American Bank Center Arena.     Thursday, Feb. 1 Islander Pep Rally – Join the campus community for the Islander Pep Rally at the University Center north terrace from 9 to 9:30 p.m.   Friday, Feb. 2 Campus Tours- Take a walking or riding tour with Island Ambassadors and see the University's newest additions Tours will be offered from 10 to 11 a.m. starting at the University Center, east entrance. Fry-Day Fiesta- Bring the whole family and enjoy free food, games and fun for all from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the University Center east lawn. Official Ring Ceremony- This is standing tradition for A&M-Corpus Christi students who will be presented their official school rings. Parents and friends are encouraged to attend this ceremony from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Athletic Hall of Honor Dinner- Former University athletes will honor new Atletic Hall of Honor inductees at a dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. in the University Center, Oso Room. Tickets are $25 per person. Homecoming Parade and Pre-game Kickoff Party – Enjoyed the Homecoming Parade on Mesquite St. between Hughes and Palo Alto streets beginning at 4:30 p.m. The parade will be followed by a pre-game kickoff party from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the American Bank Center, Lot 7. Men’s Basketball Game-The Islanders will take on Sam Houston State in Southland Conference play at 7 p.m. at the American Bank Center Arena. Homecoming Bash- Join alumni after the men's basketball game for an evening of live music and fun. Tickets will be available at the door. Admission is $10 general admission or $8 for alumni.
