Third Season of the Gloria and Robert Furgason Bravo! Series for the Performing Arts to Offer Eclectic Blend of Concerts

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – From the nostalgic a cappella doo-wop of The Alley Cats to the cutting-edge comedy of the Second City Comedy Tour, the 2007-2008 Gloria and Robert Furgason Bravo! Series for the Performing Arts will present four concerts that showcase a diverse cross-section of classic American entertainment. All shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Performing Arts Center.

Wednesday, Sept. 19 – The Bravo! Series opens its third season when The Alley Cats return to Corpus Christi for an evening benefit concert with all proceeds benefiting the Bravo Kids’ Concert Series! “America’s Premier Doo-Wop Group” combines spontaneous humor, comic timing and audience participation to recreate some of the most memorable songs of the 1950s and 1960s. The Alley Cats have shared the stage with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame recording artists Chubby Checker and the Beach Boys as well as comedian Jerry Seinfeld. In addition to thousands of live performances, the group has provided music for numerous television shows and radio jingles. Reserved seat tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for students and children.

Tuesday, Dec. 4 – Back by popular demand, award-winning cowboy poet and musician Michael Martin Murphey brings his innovative “Cowboy Christmas” to the Performing Arts Center for the third year. Murphey, whose classic “Wildfire” topped the pop charts in 1975, began his annual Christmas tour, which today includes 40 cities, in 1987. Ticket prices range from $10 to $30 for adults. Tickets are $7 for students and children.

Tuesday, Feb. 12 – The world famous Glenn Miller Orchestra will present “Celebrating America in a Patriotic Mood,” an evening of favorite freedom anthems such as “America The Beautiful,” “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “When Johnny Comes Marching Home,” “The Star Spangled Banner” and “The Marine Hymn,” plus many other all-time Miller favorites. With its unique jazz sound, the Glenn Miller Orchestra is the most popular big band in the world for both concert and swing dance engagements. Ticket prices range from $10 to $30 for adults. Tickets are $7 for students and children.

Saturday, April 5 – “The Best of Second City: One Nation, Under Blog” mines comedic gold from the day’s headlines and features a combination of rehearsed scenes and songs mixed with improvised skits. The touring company pulls material from The Second City archives to perform timely political and social sketches. The theatre launched the careers of comic legends John Belushi, Mike Myers, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner and Stephen Colbert and many others. Ticket prices range from $10 to $30 for adults and $7 for students. Children younger than 15 will not be permitted.
