A&M-Corpus Christi Gears Up for Homecoming 2006 with Week of Activities for Students, Alumni and Community
 

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi alumni will join with current students and their families, and University faculty and staff to celebrate the 2006 Islander Homecoming and Parents Week from Monday, Jan. 30 through Saturday, Feb. 4.

The weeklong festivities celebrating the history and traditions of the Island University are being organized and sponsored by the A&M-Corpus Christi Alumni Association, the Student Affairs Office, the Campus Activities Board, the Student Government Association and others. The theme of this year’s celebration is “An Island of Blue and Green.”
           
Director of Alumni Relations Evon English stressed that the University is inviting the Coastal Bend community to join the celebration. Community members, area chambers of commerce and the Corpus Christi and Flour Bluff school districts are also being encouraged to wear blue and green on Friday, Feb. 3.

According to the Alumni Association, an estimated 30,000 students have graduated from the University since the University of Corpus Christi opened its doors in 1947. More than 16,000 graduates live in the local area an estimated 20,000 live in the state of Texas. The Alumni Association currently has active chapters on campus, in Corpus Christi, Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. All graduates and former students from the University of Corpus Christi, Texas A&I University at Corpus Christi, Corpus Christi State University and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi are considered to be alumni.

Homecoming week highlights include:
Monday, January 30
 
  • Kick-Off Picnic- This Homecoming tradition kicks off the week with free food and fun. Get acquainted with the King and Queen Court nominations and heighten your school spirit as the cheerleading team performs. Lee Plaza, 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Student Affairs Office.   • Islander-Ino- Islanderino is a Vegas-style event where students can play games like poker, craps, and roulette, and win prizes. University Center Ballroom, 6–9 p.m. Sponsored by the Campus Activity Board. Students only
   
Wednesday, February 1
 
  • Blood Drive- 4th Annual Blood Drive competition will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 1 and Thursday, Feb. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the University Center east lawn. Student organizations will compete for a $100 prize to go toward their organization. Sponsored by the Student Affairs Office.  Students only
     
  • Housing Hoopla Event- This event will take place at Camden Miramar housing, 3–6 p.m. Sponsored by Camden Housing. Students only
   
Thursday, February 2
 
  • Blue & Green Day- Show school spirit by wearing Islander gear and get a free t-shirt (first 300 students). Students can enjoy games celebrating the Islander spirit, Orbitron, power jump bungee trampoline and giveaways. University Center foyer and east lawn, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.  Sponsored by Student Affairs. Students only

Friday, February 3
 
  • Registration- Pick up name tags, pre-paid ticket packets and available tickets for events from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the University Center west entry. Sponsored by the Alumni Association. Open to University alumni
     
  • Reunion Group Reception- Classes celebrating their 50th (’56), 25th (’81), 10th (’96) and 5th (’01) anniversaries are especially encouraged to come by and visit with their classmates from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., University Center, Legacy Hall. Sponsored by the Alumni Association. Open to University alumni
     
  • Campus Tours- The public can see our newest additions and alumni can reminisce about their days on campus on a riding or walking tour guided by the Island Ambassadors. University Center, east entrance, 10–11 a.m. Open to public
     
  • Fryday Fiesta- Students, parents and alumni are invited to join this campus activity featuring free food, games and fun for all from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Center for Instruction courtyard. Sponsored by the Student Government Association. Open to students, alumni, and the public
     
  • Official Ring Ceremony- This is standing tradition for A&M-Corpus Christi students and alumni, who will be presented their official school rings. Parents and friends are encouraged to attend this ceremony from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Sponsored by the Alumni Association. Open to students, alumni, and the public
     
  • Meet the Prof Social- Students, parents and alumni are invited to meet with professors for refreshments and conversation. An exhibit featuring professors’ current research will be on display from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Sponsored by the Alumni Association.  Open to students and parents
     
  • Athletic Hall of Honor Dinner- Former athletes will gather for a dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. honoring new Athletic Hall of Honor inductees. University Center, Oso Room. Tickets are $25 per person.   • Islander Revue- Student groups compete in this singing and dancing extravaganza. The winning student groups from two categories, performing and non-performing, will each receive a $1,000 cash prize.   • Class Reunion Photos and Memorabilia Collection- Bring any memorabilia you’d like to share. Alumni celebrating milestone reunions are especially encouraged to stop by for professional group photos from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the University Center, Legacy Hall. Sponsored by the Alumni Association. Open to students, alumni, and the public
     
  • Islander Parents and Alumni Awards Brunch- Outstanding alumni, students, faculty, parents and former athletes are honored at this annual brunch.   • National Alumni Meeting and Elections- All alumni are invited to the National Alumni Association meeting from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom. Open to all University alumni
     
  • Women’s Basketball Game- A&M-Corpus Christi vs. University of Northern Colorado from 3 to 5 p.m. at the American Bank Center Arena. Tickets can be purchased at the American Bank Center. Open to the public
     
  • Islander Block Party- Come enjoy music, face painting for kids, clowns and inflatable activities such as a full rush obstacle course, hydraulic rock wall and basketball challenge. The Islander women’s basketball team will be on hand to sign autographs. Food and drink items for sale. The event is free and open to people of all ages. American Bank Center on the Reseca Street entrance, 5–7 p.m. Sponsored by the Alumni Association. Open to the public
