New Orleans Jazz Band to Perform Private Concert for Louisiana Residents Displaced by Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina evacuees still residing in area shelters will be treated to a private concert by Orange Kellin’s New Orleans Blue Serenaders Featuring Varnel Bagneris on Friday, Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center on the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi campus.

Kellin’s trio of New Orleans musicians will be joined by legendary song-and-dance man Vernel Bagneris, the creator and director of the Broadway musical One Mo’ Time. Bagneris was also the choreographer for the Oscar-winning film Ray.

Kellin’s group and his management company, Art Fegan Entertainment, Inc., have waived their fees for the performance which precedes a 7:30 p.m. concert to fund scholarships for displaced Gulf Coast students attending A&M-Corpus Christi. The Corpus Christi Regional Transportation will provide transportation for the evacuees from shelters at Memorial Coliseum, the First United Methodist Church and the Annaville Baptist Church.
