Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Presidential Investiture Scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 10

On Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, following a week of inaugural festivities, Dr. Flavius C. Killebrew will be formally invested as President of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in a 10 a.m. ceremony at the Performing Arts Center.

The investiture will begin with an academic procession that will include delegates from other colleges and universities, as well as A&M-Corpus Christi’s own faculty. Marchers will wear the colorful academic regalia of their own institution. During the ceremony, Dr. Killebrew will be presented with the University Presidential Medallion by Chancellor Robert McTeer of The Texas A&M University System. The medallion symbolizes the charge, expectations and authority entrusted to Dr. Killebrew by the A&M System Board of Regents. Chancellor Emeritus Dr. Barry B. Thompson, a mentor, colleague and friend of Dr. Killebrew, will deliver the keynote address.

The week’s inauguration festivities kick off with Dr. Killebrew throwing out the first pitch at the Corpus Christi Hooks game against the San Antonio Missions on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 7:05 p.m. at Whataburger Field.

The State of the University Luncheon will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the American Bank Center Ballroom. “Momentum 2015,” the University’s 10-year vision, will be introduced by Dr. Killebrew. Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit the University’s Achieve Partnership Scholarship Program.

The highlight of the week will be the Investiture Ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. at the Performing Arts Center, followed by the Investiture Reception beginning at noon in the University Center Commons area.

The President’s Island Ball hosted by the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Foundation and Board of Trustees will be the culmination of inauguration festivities. The black-tie ball will take place on Saturday, Sept. 10 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the University Center. A 7 p.m. dinner will be followed by dancing at 8:30. Events for students, faculty and staff include the Student Leadership Luncheon on Tuesday, Sept. 6 12:30 p.m. in the University Center, the President’s Picnic for students on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 4 p.m., and the Faculty and Staff Presidential Texas Barbecue on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 11:30 a.m.
