Preliminary 12th Day Enrollment Figures at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Up Slightly over Fall 2004 Officials at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi announced the traditional 12th day preliminary enrollment count taken at the end of the day on Friday, September 9. The figure shows that 8,471 students are currently enrolled at the University for Fall 2005. This total is up from the 8,227 students enrolled in Fall 2004. Reporting of 12th day numbers is required by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. However, schools have until the 20th day to finalize their numbers which are used to determine the amount of state funding the University will receive. The breakdown by level and comparisons to last fall’s numbers is as follows:
“The largest percentage of growth is in our doctoral enrollment,” Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management Manuel Lujan said. “This growth reflects the fact that we have a demand for doctoral programs and also that we recently introduced a new Ph.D program in coastal and marine system sciences.” In the area of ethnicity, the largest percentage of growth is in the Native American group which rose to 23%, followed by a 18 percent increase of African Americans, 9 percent increase of Asian-Americans, 6 percent increase of Hispanics, and .3 percent increase in White/Non-Hispanics. Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi offers 38 undergraduate programs and 28 graduate programs, including four doctoral programs and five pre-professional programs in dentistry, law, medicine, optometry and veterinary medicine.
