A&M-Corpus Christi Program COAST to Promote the Importance of College Readiness

The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi program COAST (Creating Opportunities to Achieve Success for Tomorrow) will host “College Football Friday” on Friday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. during the Miller High School football game against King High School at Buc Stadium.

“College Football Friday” will promote the importance of college readiness especially on entrance exams by bringing the information to the students and their parents. COAST members and college representatives will be available to answer questions and pass out items such as miniature footballs, pencils and cups with upcoming test dates for the SAT and ACT exams.

Last spring students from Roy Miller and West Oso high schools were nominated by counselors, teachers, coaches and organizational chairs to participate in COAST. The selected students attended a leadership camp at the University to teach them how to prepare interactive workshops on education/college readiness for their peers, how to organize discussions with parents and how to assist in raising awareness about educational opportunities. The students participating in COAST will be awarded grant scholarship monies that will cover tuition at the University during their first two years.
