“An Evening of Tejano Music” to Feature Top Tejano Acts in Concert on Friday, November 18 at Performing Arts Center Tejano superstars Ruben Ramos and the Mexican Revolution, along with Latin Breed featuring Adalberto, will present a special concert on Friday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center at Texas A&M-University Corpus Christi. The fourth concert of the University’s Furgason Bravo! Series, the event will feature two of the top acts from the golden age of Tejano music, which ruled the airwaves during the 1970s. Ruben Ramos has developed a solid reputation as one of the smoothest singers and classiest bandleaders in the history of the genre, according to Tejano music writer and San Antonio Express News columnist Ramiro Burr. He is part of a family musical legacy dating back 80 years. His sound is rooted in traditional Mexican music and infused with the big-band sound of the 1940s and blues and rock. In January of 1998, Ramos and the Revolution were inducted into the prestigious Pura Vida Hall of Fame, and in March of 1998, he was inducted into the Tejano Music Awards Hall of Fame. Ramos and the Revolution received the Best Male Vocalist and Video of the Year awards at the Tejano Music Awards in 1999. Opening the concert is Latin Breed, whose big-horn-section and creativity ruled the Tejano sound in the 1970s. The Breed is known for their jazzy intros and sophisticated arrangements, drawing on influences ranging from jazz to R&B to big band. The group produced a long string of Tejano hits including “Ay Mujer," "Que Chulos Ojos," and "Todos Dicen.” Tickets for the event are available at ticketweb.com or by calling Ticketweb toll-free at 1-866-468-7621. Ticket prices range from $15 to $35. Tickets will also be available at the Performing Arts Center Box Office the night of the event. For more information call (361) 825-ARTS. |
